The “BioActive Fraction”

Extensive research on FWGE drew the attention of scientists at a leading NCI-designated academic research center. They invited American BioSciences to join a research collaboration to identify the individual molecules in FWGE that account for its biological activity, and find the “bioactive fraction”. This research collaboration determined:

In its natural form, FWGE consists of thousands of molecules, but 100 percent of the biological activity and health benefits are provided by less than 100 molecules which compose the “bioactive fraction.”
Non-active molecules dilute FWGE bioactives, and they include gluten and gliadin, which may contribute to unwanted inflammation.

American BioSciences developed a patent-pending combination of technologies used in food processing, which concentrates the bioactive fraction, referred to as Fermented Wheat Germ Extract–Super Concentrate (FWGE-SC). Non-active molecules, including gluten, are excluded. Studies show that 41 mg of FWGE-SC, found in Metatrol, has the same biological effect as 5,500 mg of pure FWGE, found in AvéULTRA, and 17,000 mg of spray dried FWGE, found in original Avé^®. As a dietary supplement for adults less than 200 lbs., take two (2) Metatrol capsules per day (before, during or after meals, as preferred). For people weighing over 200 lbs., 4 Metatrol capsules per day are recommended to get the proper dose of FWGE.

When should I take Metatrol?
Metatrol can be taken any time of day, before, during or after meals. You can take both capsules at once or split them up, one in the a.m. and one in the p.m. Also, there has been no research showing that other dietary supplements will interfere with Metatrol or conversely, that it interferes with any other dietary supplements, so you can take Metatrol whenever it is convenient.

When taking any prescription medication, review the FDA packet insert available with every drug for warnings and contraindications, and consult with your doctors or with pharmacists. We encourage everyone with serious health issues to consult with a physician for personal guidance.

What is Metatrol—is it the same product as AvéULTRA?

Metatrol contains only the bioactive fraction from AvéULTRA; non-active fractions, including gliadin and gluten, are filtered out. Research shows that Fermented Wheat Germ Extract (FWGE) provides health benefits by supporting regulation of both cell metabolism and immune function. FWGE consists of tens of thousands of molecules. Research performed by the manufacturer of Metatrol, American BioSciences, and academic research collaborators show that fewer than 100 molecules account for 100% of the biological activity of FWGE.

This led to them patenting this innovative new technology that concentrates this bioactive fraction into a substance called Fermented Wheat Germ Extract—Super Concentrate (FWGE-SC)®. Studies show that 41 mg of FWGE-SC, the amount found in two Metatrol capsules, has the same biological activity as 5,500 mg of FWGE, which is the amount found in one packet of AvéULTRA. AvéULTRA has been discontinued because our customers have found Metatrol to be a superior product.

Where does the name “Metatrol” come from?

The Metatrol name results from combining syllables from “metabolic” and “control”, which emphasizes the primary benefit of this dietary supplement: the support of healthy cell metabolic regulation that drives healthy gene expression.* In healthy cells, metabolism involves the conversion of glucose with oxygen into a molecule called ATP, which fuels the function of healthy cells.

Medical researchers have long known that stress and injury can alter cell metabolism, in some cases stimulating non-oxidative metabolism and inhibiting oxidative metabolism. These cells no longer function in a healthy manner, and they disturb the healthy function and metabolism of neighboring cells. Research shows that FWGE and FWGE-SC help support healthy oxidative metabolism, and inhibit non-oxidative metabolism that characterize abnormal cells, restoring healthy cell function.

Will I receive the same benefits from Metatrol as I did from AvéULTRA?

Yes, research shows that Metatrol provides the same health benefits as AvéULTRA®, but it is much easier to take–just take two or more capsules per day, with no need to mix with water or juice. Gluten and gliadin have been removed so that people with gluten allergies can take it without worry.

Are there any side effects from Metatrol?

Research shows that FWGE is non-toxic. Only a small percent of users report stomach upset or change in stool, which could be caused by gluten and gliadin. Some AvéULTRA users did not like the taste or the need to mix with water or juice.

Gluten and gliadin are removed from Metatrol. The dose comes in capsules–which means no more mixing–and virtually no taste! If you are unable or have difficulty swallowing capsules, they can be easily opened and sprinkled onto food or drink.

How can Fermented Wheat Germ Extract (FWGE) be gluten-free?

Patent pending technology concentrates all the bioactive molecules in FWGE and filters out gluten and nonactive molecules. Our discontinued products, Avé® and AvéULTRA, had 665.5 mg of gluten per serving, while Metatrol contains only a trace of gluten (less than 20 ppm or 0.005 mg per capsule) and meets the Food and Drug Administration’s definition of gluten-free.

How many Metatrol capsules should I take?

When switching from AvéULTRA to Metatrol, substitute two Metatrol capsules for one packet of AvéULTRA. Research shows that two Metatrol capsules, containing 41 mg of FWGE-SC, is bioequivalent to one packet of AvéULTRA, which contains 5,500 mg of FWGE freeze dried extract. We encourage everyone with serious health issues to consult with a physician for personal guidance.

For adults weighing less than 200 pounds, the recommended use is to take two capsules per day, together at once, or in divided doses (one in the AM, one in the PM). For people weighing over 200 pounds, four capsules per day are recommended. Consult with a health care practitioner for usage recommendation for children. Do not take when pregnant or nursing. Do not take if on immune suppressive medication related to an organ transplant.

When should I take Metatrol?

Metatrol contains the bioactive fraction of AvéULTRA, consisting of fewer than 100 molecules with very low molecular weights, and is not degraded by active digestion. You can take Metatrol before, during, or after meals. There has been no research showing that other dietary supplements will interfere with Metatrol, or that Metatrol interferes with any other dietary supplements, so you can take Metatrol whenever it is most convenient for you.

When taking any prescription medication, review the FDA packet insert and consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns about potential contraindications before taking Metatrol.

Will Metatrol be more expensive than AvéULTRA?

No. Metatrol is the same price as AvéULTRA, despite the increased cost of manufacturing (essentially, we manufacture AvéULTRA, then we extract and discard the non-active constituents, and concentrate the bioactive fraction).

Unlike AvéULTRA, which needs shipping with dry ice in climates where the temperature is above 80°F, Metatrol is stable at higher temperatures. Metatrol can be shipped via regular mail without ice, so many customers will save money on shipping costs.

How long does someone take Metatrol before they notice a difference?

People who take Metatrol daily often report improvement in appetite, energy and daily activity within three weeks. Of course, it is a natural product, so results may vary from person to person. However, measurable improvement is usually noticed within three months.*

How long should someone continue to take Metatrol?

Metatrol is a natural product that may take a little time to begin working in the body. Although many people see a difference in three weeks, most people see results sometime within the first three months. For long term results, we recommend, that you use Metatrol for at least six months. It is really your personal judgment as to when you feel you are “healthy enough.” If you do decide to stop taking Metatrol, you can do so without experiencing any side effects or withdrawal. Is there a recommendation for using Metatrol at a lower maintenance level of use?
